Women's Health

Adults, seniors, children and animals may benefit from signaling molecules interacting at a cellular level within the body's Endocannabinoid receptors.

Endocannabinoids are endogenous molecules located internally throughout our body, and the body of ALL mammals. These molecules are synthesized from omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids to help restore homeostasis. CBD is a Phytocannabinoid meaning it comes plants. Your Endocannabinoid System maintains balance, immunity and homeostasis.

Fun fact: CBD can only come from the flowers of a FEMALE plant, and women actually have more CBD receptors than men.

Heart Health- Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women in the USA. Take steps to stay ahead of heart disease by decreasing cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels. The American Heart Association suggests increased movement, no smoking, taking control of blood sugar, eating a well balanced diet and managing blood pressure to help decrease risk. Adding anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties to your lifestyle may also help.

Cortisol Levels- Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone. It regulates the “flight or fight” response. Responsible for helping the brain control mood, stress, fear and the feeling of motivation or drive. Nervousness, stress, blood pressure, blood sugar, metabolism, digestion, hormones, reproductive system, sleep, immune system, and inflammation are all affected by Cortisol. Anandamide stimulates healthy serotonin levels and affect mood.

Stress / Traumatic Situations- Lower stress levels often occur as a result of reduced cortisol levels in the body and improved essential fatty acid levels (which control mood and happiness). Low serotonin can cause mood disorders. Regulation of cortisol may result in decreased activity in the brain after activated by fearful situations, which may lead to less feelings of stress.

Headaches- A 2007 study from the Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology suggests cannabinoids help regulate deficient amounts of Anandamide (AEA), which is an essential fatty acid. AEA is an endocannabinoid potentiator of serotonin and analgesia within the body.

Soreness & Swelling- Lowering or regulating your cortisol levels has been reported in studies to significantly help the body reduce swelling and soreness. The skin also has local dermal receptor sites and enable the interaction with cannabinoid receptors.

Rest- Many adults report they do not get enough sleep. A well regulated ECS may help regulate rest patterns. Decreased cortisol levels lower “fight” or “flight” feelings. In theory, this may attribute to the feeling of a more restful night.

Hormonal Imbalance & Female Issues- Receptors in the body control our “Bliss” molecules (Anandamide levels). The uterus has very high levels of these molecules, and when the levels drop, they may contribute to the feeling of moodiness, irritability, cravings, bloating and cramping. Especially during "certain times of the month", or during the later in life hormonal changes. Many women report using cannabinoids in their search to have a better experience with their special female “friends”.

Attention / Focus- Many women are living with some type of nervousness or concentration related concern, and there is a 75% chance that it is genetic. Researchers have found chemical differences that affect the way the brain sends signals, especially parts that are focused on attention, reward and consequences.
Many pharmaceuticals may be inefficient or have dangerous or negative side effects, defeating the purpose of taking the medication. Modulation and regulation of the endocannabinoid system may help with the feeling of focus, peace and calm when cortisol levels are regulated.

Neuroprotective- Endocannabinoids are signaling molecules within the body. Our nervous system connects to sensors and signals in our body. Women are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop Multiple Sclerosis than men, and have almost a 50% greater chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease! Research shows these disease processes begin 20 years BEFORE a diagnosis is even made. Scientists are studying cannabinoids and how they interact with neurological diseases. Studies are also taking place to see if disease onset can be limited.

Bone Strength & Collagen- The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research reported in 2015 that CBD helps regulate bone mass, markedly improve fracture healing and elevates collagen production. Published studies show the endocannabinoid system plays an important role in the regulation of bone mass in health and disease states.

Digestion- sensitive stomachs and gastrointestinal problems may be significantly regulated by a reduction in inflammation. Activating the endocannabinoid receptors and DECREASING irritation in the gut could lead to less digestive distress, decrease in discomfort, and more normal bowel habits.

Relaxation & Well being- A regulated and balanced endocannabinoid system and levels of anandamide may help provide a general sense of well being and uplift in mood.

Skin Care- Many use CBD to support skin health. They are looking for help with breakouts, patchy or irritated skin and to get that glowing, healthy look . CBD can be used sublingually, ingested, mixed in a mask or used topically. Finding ways to decrease bacteria and boost collagen production can be great for the skin.

Breast Feeding and the Endocannabinoid System- Endocannabinoids have been found present in breast milk. The  2-AG levels are actually much higher than those of anandamide. So when a baby is fed breast milk, endocannabinoids are  passed on to the infant and may lend to the feeling of bliss and contentment in the body. In addition to having a full belly, this may explain why a nursing baby is less fussy after feeding!

What’s Next:
Scientific research continues to be performed and vetted privately and academically. In 2018, there were 70 studies investigating CBD as a medicine. The studies must be backed up by the U.S government, the DEA and the FDA before CBD extracts are considered a drug. There have been over 20,000 studies on cannabis world wide.

With the passing of the 2018 US Farm Bill, section 12619, CBD is declassified as a Class 1 status under the Controlled Substances Act. If the hemp extract is grown and produced under the guidance of the bill, it is legal for use and purchase in all 50 states, tribes and US territories. It is however, important to check each state, tribe and territory for any additional acts or laws passed related to CBD acquired from Cannabis vs Agricultural Hemp.

Many women are choosing a more holistic path, using natural ingredients, and are gravitating toward CBD and plant bioceuticals. Scientific studies show numerous health benefits, but it is important to note further medical research is needed before anyone can say it “cures” or “prevents” any disease or condition.
